Innis & Gunn Winter Treacle Porter
Dougal Sharp, CEO of Innis & Gunn, was inspired to dig up the old Scottish tradition of spiking porter with treacle when he came across a reference to the practice and a 100 year old recipe in the Scottish drinks history book, A Scot’s Cellar, by Florence Marion McNeill. And so he did it, and it’s worked incredibly well.
Innis and Gunn's signature rounded caramelised nose is ever-present here. Dark ruby red in colour and with deep notes of caramel and butterscotch on the nose, this Winter Treacle porter boasts plenty of molasses-type complexity.
One of the first things that springs to mind is its food potential – try it with mushrooms, either in a stroganoff or on sourdough bread; drink it alongside a fruity tagine with apricots and almonds; or try it alongside pumpkin gnocchi dish.
